Welcome to The Town of New Castle, Colorado is the Gateway to the Western Colorado Rocky Mountains along I-70 and the Colorado River at a 5,550 foot elevation. New Castle was incorporated in 1888, had a population of 1,800 in late 1890's from coal mining serving the Aspen and Leadville smelters by way of the Colorado Midland Railway and the Denver & Rio Grande Railroad. The population rapidly diminished to only 431 by 1900 according to the 1900 Census. The present population is over 3,500. New Castle is 12 miles west of Glenwood Springs on I-70 and just over an hour from Grand Junction and two world renowned ski resorts, Vail and Aspen. We are only minutes from the high country, fishing, hiking, hunting and many other activities. Many New Castle workers travel outside the area for work, adding 1 to 2 hours to their work day. I-70 is the main corridor to Grand Junction and Vail with Hwy. 82 to Aspen. The Town of New Castle has been classified as a bedroom town for years in the past, but with increasing New Castle is provide many local jobs and services within its area.
